Ontario Weather Service Server Tech Joshua Young - Server Tech - Forum Operations - Backup Forecaster

Joshua Young has been interested in the weather since the age of 9 years old. What drew him to study and follow the weather was a rather unique and interesting combination of events. In the fall of 1991, Joshua volunteered to report the weather conditions to the Orange County Register newspaper for his hometown when an opening became available. His application was accepted, despite his young age; and the rest is history.

Since then, Joshua has seen and tracked everything from 100+ mph Santa Ana winds, to 115 degree heat waves, to hurricanes, tornadoes, the strong El Niño years of 1997-1998 and 2004-2005, and much, much more. He once experienced a tornado that went right over his workplace in the summer of 1998 in Orlando, Florida. He survived uninjured (as did his workplace), but the gas station across the street lost its roof, and some rain gutters and plants were damaged. He has also been through such extreme weather events as a thunderstorm with lightning that struck right behind his house, rainstorms that dumped 7+ inches of rain in 24 hours, tropical storm conditions in Florida, and even 110 mph Santa Ana winds when living in inland Orange County in Rancho Santa Margarita (at the 1200 foot level).

In addition, Joshua is the guy who is responsible for keeping the Ontario Weather Service website online. If you ever experience any technical issues with the chatroom, forums, or the site itself; Joshua is the man to talk to. He has been with the OWS since the summer of 2002, and the travels of both him and Kevin Martin have taken them far and wide. In his spare time, Joshua likes to work on computers, go storm chasing, travel on his bike, and play computer games. Joshua is also known to chat on the phone a lot at times, as well.
